Staying Connected: Confession

by Jim Culwell

We are in unprecedented times and this pandemic has caused many disruptions in our lives. Some are not working, working more, staying home, home schooling children, not getting fellowship. These things can have various effects on us spiritually. God has designed us beautifully and has made us social beings; we need each other. Especially as disciples, we were never designed to do this walk alone. Today we will be discussing the importance of connection with an emphasis on confession.

Ephesians 6:10-18

(Read Ephesians 6:10-18 here

  • Satan is scheming and will never stop.

  • Our struggle is spiritual and we must fight spiritually.

  • We can fight by reading the Bible, praying for ourselves and praying for others.

  • Now is the time to initiate with others. Don’t wait for others to call you, call them. Don’t fight alone. We are not meant to fight alone. Clear your head and heart of Satan’s lies.

Psalm 31:10

(Read Psalms 31.10 here)

  • Affliction = Guilt = Sin

  • These three aspects cause us to be weak.

James 5:13-16

(Read James 5:13-16 here)

  • Look at the parallels that James creates:

    • Sick >> Call On >> Faithful Prayer >> Healed

    • Sin >> Confess >> Faithful Prayer >> Healed

  • Just as we seek help when we are physically sick, let’s seek help when we have sinned. Both result in being healed.

  • When we are healed, we are strong again.

Today’s thoughts

  1. How do you think Satan is scheming on your life right now?

  2. Write down some things that you need to get open about. It could be sin, fears, unspiritual thoughts, doubts, or anything that you need to be healed from.

  3. Are you willing to get open? Why? Or why not?

  4. Decide when you will be open and with whom you will be open.

  5. Pray for God’s help and guidance.
